Little Red Riding Hood: Cast and
synopsis Act 1. Scene 1: Maigor the magician boasts how he has ousted King Oberon and Queen Titania, needing now only to enslave human kind to rule the world. A party of hunters appear, lost in Maigor’s magic fog. Maigor casts a spell to transform the hunters into wolves. Grandpa protests, but Maigor turns him into the “Big Bad Wolf”. Scene 2: Prince Valiant and squire Humbly Grumbly have been sent by the king to investigate. The Prince asks the audience to keep their identity secret. Scene 3: The Prince hides as the villagers enter. He sees Red Riding Hood and Polly Pickle enter, followed by Simple Simon Pudding, to whom Polly is playing hard to get. Rice and Tapioca Pudding take Simon away to bake their custard pies. All exit as Grandma enters followed by the Pudding family and Woofie the dog. Evers O’Greedy and Willy Weasel enter and talk about their plot to get Grandma’s cottage for Maigor. O’Greedy boasts that he will outwit the magician with a magic potion, which Willy hides in a plant pot. The Puddings have a special prize custard pie for the market, which Simon also hides it in the plant pot. Red Riding Hood, Polly Pickle and Prudence Pudding are laughing over ribbons they have bought at the market. Prince Valiant reveals his identity to Red Riding Hood and they fall in love. Prudence thinks the Squire should marry her and live in the pie shop. Red Riding Hood goes off to pick flowers for her Grandma. Simon find the magic potion in the plant pot. The Prince overhears O’Greedy and Evers searching for their missing potion. Scene 4:. Titania and Oberon win a “battle of proverbs” against Maigor. Scene 5: Maigor forces the wolves into a plot to capture Red Riding Hood and Grandma. Scene 6: O’Greedy and Weasel discover that Simon has the potion and go off to look for him. Scene 7: A pie shop scene, with a comedy routine, a chase and a custard pie routine. Act 2. Scene 8: Grandma sits in her rocking chair waiting for Red Riding Hood, but the Big Bad Wolf enters and swallows Grandma, who is heard grumbling inside the wolf’s tummy. Red Riding Hood enters but also gets swallowed. Prince Valiant and his Squire fight the wolf, but Maigor sets a spell and he and the Big Bad Wolf escape. The Prince gets the magic potion from Simon and he and the Squire exit to follow Maigor. O’Greedy and Weasel capture the others and drive them off to Maigor's lair. Scene 9: The captives are all rushing to Maigor’s cave, and Woofie enters and follows them. Prince Valiant gets the audience to show him the way to the cave. Scene 10: In his magic cave. Maigor gloats that he has captured Grandma and Red Riding and the wolves dance around as Big Bad Wolf releases them from his tummy. Maigor leads them all off leaving the spirits of the cave on guard. The Prince, Squire and Prudence enter and the Prince drives off the spirits. The Prince then defeats O’Greedy and Weasel, and Simon and Polly are freed. O’Greedy tells the Prince that throwing the magic potion over Maigor will defeat his powers. Maigor enters with the wolves, Grandma and Red Riding Hood. The Prince fights Maigor while Polly, Simon, the Squire and Prudence stop the wolves from aiding Maigor. Gradually Maigor turns them all to stone. Woofie runs in, jumps and knocks the potion over Maigor, who turns into a toad. The wolves transform back to human form. Grandma and Grandpa are reunited, with Grandma complaining that he actually ate her. Many marriages are agreed, leading into the sing song and the walkdown Running time excluding interval, 90 minutes. |
